Barangays folks urged to try lettuce farming

Budding agri-entrepreneur Carl Ernest Serrano, hopes barangay folks in Orani will try lettuce farming as part of “Gulayan sa Barangay” program.

The young Serrano’s aspiration came about when he donated some of his harvested lettuce to Brgy. Puksuan officials led by Punong Barangay Rodolfo De Guzman.

The young farmer, the son of BM Benjie Serrano, said he wishes barangay officials to do hydrophonics lettuce farming.

Hydroponics is the technique of growing plants using a water-based nutrient solution rather than soil.

“Mas maganda ipa-try sa barangay officials para makatulong at buhayin ang ” Gulayan sa Barangay”, he said.

A few months ago, he discovered the new passion establishing his first hydroponics venture.

He started lettuce farming using the new technology in the rooftop of a building in Caloocan City until relocating in the Serrano family-owned Virginias Farm with the help of his grandfather Ben Serrano Sr.
